DayZ uses a lot of memory once you add mods and community maps. 8 GB is enough for a vanilla server. For Expansion, traders or a modded map, go for 12 to 16 GB.

Chernarus, Livonia, Sakhal and modded maps
All three official maps are available: Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal. To switch maps, change the mission in serverDZ.cfg, for example dayzOffline.enoch for Livonia, then restart. Players need the matching DLC for Livonia and Sakhal.
Community maps from the Steam Workshop such as Deer Isle or Namalsk install like any other mod. They need more memory: plan for the Hero tier.
