Satisfactory Save File Location (and How to Move Saves)

Where are Satisfactory save files on PC (Steam and Epic) and on a dedicated server? How to back them up, restore them and upload them to a server.

TL;DR

On PC, Steam and Epic alike, Satisfactory saves live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\<account number>\. On a dedicated server, in the server subfolder of the same path on Windows, or in ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/ on Linux. To upload a game to a server: Server Manager, save management, Upload, then Load. Keep an off-server copy before any update or mod change. Upload your game to a LordHosting Satisfactory server and play together without depending on the host.

Switching PCs, moving to a dedicated server or just making a backup? Here's where Satisfactory keeps your games and how to move them without losing anything.

⚙️ Save Location on PC (Steam and Epic)

Press Windows + R, paste this path and press Enter:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\

You'll find one folder per account (a long number) containing your .sav files. Each save is named after its session and date.

Finding the right file

The in-game load menu shows the session name: the .sav file starts with that name. Sort the folder by modification date to land on the most recent one.

⚙️ Save Location on a Dedicated Server

SystemFolder
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server\ (of the account running the server)
Linux~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/

On a Satisfactory server hosted by LordHosting, this folder is reachable from the panel's file manager or over SFTP, no path hunting: it sits in the server tree under FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/.

⚙️ Uploading a Save to a Server

Recommended (in game):

  1. Server Manager, select your server.
  2. Open save management and choose Upload.
  3. Pick your .sav file, then load it.

SFTP method: stop the server, drop the .sav into the server folder above, restart and load the session from the Server Manager.

If the server isn't claimed yet, do that first: see How to make a Satisfactory dedicated server.

⚙️ Downloading a Save From a Server

To play the server's game solo or keep a copy: download the .sav from the Server Manager or over SFTP, then place it in your local save folder. It shows up in the load menu at the next launch.

⚙️ Good Practices

  • Keep an off-server copy regularly (weekly, for example).
  • Copy your latest save before a major game update or adding mods. Our Satisfactory mods guide explains why a removed mod can break a save.
  • Satisfactory keeps rotating autosaves: if something goes wrong, load the previous one instead of starting over.
  • Enable autosave on disconnect in the server settings: the game is written as soon as a player leaves.

⚙️ Ready-to-paste configuration

A Windows script that copies your local saves every evening into a dated folder. Replace the destination folder at the top, then schedule it with Task Scheduler.

@echo off
:: Replace with the folder where copies should go
set DEST=D:\Backups\Satisfactory
set SRC=%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames
for /f "tokens=1-3 delims=/" %%a in ("%date%") do set STAMP=%%c-%%b-%%a
robocopy "%SRC%" "%DEST%\%STAMP%" *.sav /S /NFL /NDL /NJH /NJS

For a Linux server, the one-line cron equivalent, every night at 4 am:

0 4 * * * tar czf /home/steam/backups/satisfactory-$(date +\%F).tar.gz -C /home/steam/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames server

✅ Conclusion

One path to remember on PC, one extra server subfolder for the dedicated server, and two ways to upload: from the game or over SFTP. With a weekly off-server copy, a failed update or a misbehaving mod never costs you more than a few hours.

Upload your game to a Satisfactory server and play together without depending on the host: the factory stays online, and your saves are reachable from the panel.
